| The REU Program at the Rice Quantum Institute has just been renewed through 2010. Owing to this late notice, we will allow applications through Wednesday, March 5, 2008. This interdisciplinary
program is open to undergraduates from other schools who are U.S. citizens
or permanent residents. Rice and International students performing research with other sources of funding may participate in the program's social activities.
The Twenty-Second Annual Summer Research Colloquium of the Rice Quantum Institute is currently scheduled for Friday, August 8, 2008.
- A new center, the Laboratory for Nanophotonics
(LaNP), was established in 2004 for the development
of plasmonic technologoy and its in applications
to surface-enhanced spectroscopies, chemical and
biodetection, cancer detection and therapy, and
other arieas. LaNP is headed by Naomi Halas, is
funded by both NSF and DoD, and currently consists
of faculty, students and postdocs from ECE, PHYS,
CHEM, BIOE and MEMS. See the LaNP
