A number of modern facilities support this research, including tunable subpicosecond lasers, excimer lasers, vacuum ultraviolet and soft x-ray sources, tunable infrared lasers, a high vacuum scanning tunneling microscope, an atomic force microscope, a scanning electron microscope and a variety of material processing and characterization equipment, e.g., mass spectrometry, NMR, IR, Raman, etc., as well as a first-rate machine shop.
